Who are Links Driving School ?
Neil Emmerson
I am a retired Traffic Police Officer having completed over 30 years’ service with Hertfordshire Constabulary. I spent 23 years on various Traffic and Roads Policing units, initially as a Police Constable and then as a Sergeant. I patrolled the M1, M25 and the A1(M) motorways as well as all the major arterial routes within the county. One of my main responsibilities was attending and investigating serious and fatal road collisions across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

In 1987 I successfully passed the Police Advanced driving test. I regularly carried out driving assessments of 'response' police drivers under emergency blue light conditions. Having been involved in many high speed pursuits on a variety of roads, I know the importance of being able to remain calm and patient under extremely stressful driving conditions.
One role that I really enjoyed was attending secondary schools educating and interacting with 16 and 17 year old students on the causes and prevention of such collisions. I also worked alongside the Fire and Rescue Service and Hertfordshire County Council Road Safety Team promoting Safe Driving for Life.
In the autumn of 2012 I featured on the BBC Traffic Cops TV series (Killer on the Loose, episode 4)
The move into driving instruction, and setting up Links Driving School, was a natural progression for me. This allows me to share the vast knowledge and experience that I gained whilst being a Traffic Police Officer. My aim is to promote 'safe driving for life' for my clients, which will reduce serious injuries and road deaths on our roads. I DO NOT just prepare clients for a driving test!
Since retiring from the police I have carried out Fleet driver training and UK familiarisation courses on behalf of the IAM Drive and Survive, as well instructing clients to drive Audi R8, Lamborghini and Porsche cars at VIP Supercars Experience in Bovingdon. I have also delivered the NDORS National Speed Awareness 30 Course on behalf of Drivetech in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire to those persons caught by the police for marginal speeding on restricted roads.
On Monday 5th August 2024 I had my 550th driving test pass at Letchworth Driving Test Centre.
